Lead Remediation
Working with lead remediation requires having the right personal protective equipment to protect against the dangerous particles that lead contains. Lead is toxic and is absorbed into the body especially through inhalation. It is also important to avoid getting lead dust in the mouth and in small wounds and scratches. Prolonged exposure to lead or short-term exposure to large amounts of lead can cause serious health damage that can be life-threatening.
Protection for work with lead remediation:
• Respirator: P3 disposable mask or half-mask with P3 filter
• Disposable suit: For dry dusty work, Type 5/6. For work with heat-generating power tools or wet work, Type 4/5. The suit must be tight-fitting at ankles, neck, and wrists
• Gloves: It is recommended to use nitrile gloves, but it is not mandatory
• Glasses: It is recommended to use, for example, clear safety glasses or goggles. Not mandatory
• Warning sign: ‘lead remediation’
IMPORTANT!
For tasks where the lead-containing material is heated or where the environment may be humid/wet, fresh air supplied respirators must be used. (Contact Otto Schachner for specific information regarding the particular task).
